How Obama Got - funny christmas shirts

The lies coming from right-wing America about President Barack Obama are now starting to sound like utter desperation.

At first, President Obama was a Muslim, and then he wasn't born in this country, and then he hates white people, even though he's biracial. Now a new film called 'Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected,' posits that the mediaconspired to skew the facts and get Obama elected as this country's first non-white commander-in-chief.

The site, howobamagotelected.com, which advertises a documentary on the topic, pushes the idea that Sarah Palin and John McCain were treated badly by the media, while President Obama was basically given a free pass. John Ziegler, who produced the documentary, first asked Obama supporters basic questions about government. Later, he hired an internationally known polling firm, Zogby International, to ask Obama supporters questions about media coverage of the election. The poll queried 512 Obama supporters and concluded that they remembered more "negative" media stories about McCain and Palin than they did about Obama.

"The reality is the media coverage was so horrendous that Obama voters had no idea for what they were voting," Ziegler said on one interview. "There are three questions on this list that a group of monkeys, if they had been guessing, would have done better than the Obama voters did.

According to the Wall Street Journal:

The press release highlighted that at least 80 percent of Obama voters knew that Palin had a pregnant teenage daughter and was the candidate associated with a $150,000 wardrobe and that McCain was unable to identify the number of houses he owned. Meanwhile, more than 80 percent didn't know unflattering facts about Obama, such as his successful efforts to have opponents removed from the ballot in his first political race and his comments that critics have interpreted to mean his energy policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry.

What utter nonsense. As the Wall Street Journal points out, voters likely remembered the information about Palin and McCain because it had happened more recently than the events listed for Biden and Obama. In addition, the firm did not poll McCain supporters. That sounds like manipulation to me.

I can't imagine that the news media would not report that Obama's daughter was pregnant, especially if he was in favor of abstinence-only sex education. Michelle Obama was initially depicted as an angry black woman, after her comments about America were misinterpreted. What if she demanded that the Democratic Party spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for her clothes and hair while trying to depict herself as a down-home soccer mom.

Unfortunately, voters on both sides of the aisles are ignorant about how government works.

John Zogby, who owns the polling firm, later backed off the results, telling the Wall Street Journal, "He wouldn't have approved the poll without including McCain supporters. A more honest poll would have been conducted had we also focused on McCain people," he said. He added that some of the questions weren't worded fairly."

I know how President Obama was elected: This country was desperate for something different after eight years of a Republican president who many say was one of the worst ever. At the end of his term, George W. Bush left the country with a major deficit, on the verge of financial collapse and mired in two wars, one of which he deftly manipulated the media to initiate. The lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction has to go down as one of the biggest media manipulations in the history of the media.

Sarah Palin was roasted because she did not appear to be competent in several interviews. How can you be a vice presidential candidate and not be able to answer simple questions about what newspapers and magazines you read or foreign policy? It seems like Palin was chosen as an effort to manipulate the media. Maybe McCain thought the media would be blinded by the fact that she's a former beauty queen and a woman. I'm glad Palin imploded before his eyes.

McCain put his foot in his mouth when he botched a question about the economy in the midst of a potential economic collapse. And stories about Rev. Wright and whether Obama was a Muslim (is that a crime?) or even born in this country have gotten way too much media attention. Were those stories not the result of someone manipulating the media?

As President Obama helps move the health care bill through the U.S. legislature, and makes progress on other important issues, it sounds like another false controversy is once again being drummed up. Ziegler has been on mainstream media shows pushing the documentary. We should manipulate the media and ignore his nonsense.
